Message from the Mayor
The 4th is upon us. Most people love fireworks, and we have a wonderful display of them this Friday night. Individual use of them can be problematic. Animals can be very disturbed by them, and they can be very stressful to some individuals. I have two friends who are terrified of them. One lost part of his hand and the other lost sight in one eye. While you certainly can purchase and use your own fireworks, I urge you to be careful and follow safety rules and our city ordinances.
Ordinance 94.30
(A) It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge fireworks within the city limits outside the specifications of this section. Legal discharge will be from June 27th through the first Sunday following July 4th, and from December 28th through January 1st. Special permission may be requested for events or displays outside these dates falling outside these dates and times for approval by city council.
(B) It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge fireworks of any sort in any city park or on property owned or managed by the city. Use of city property for public display will require prior approval by City Council
(C) No fireworks will be permitted at anytime on Main Street from Second Street to Fifth Street, and one block east or west of, on any intersecting street or alley between Second and Fifth Streets.
94.99 Penalty
(C) Any person who shall violate any provisions of 94.30 shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined in a sum of not less than $10, nor more than $100 for each and every offense (emphasis added)
Just a few commonsense comments; Please don’t shoot fireworks in a direction that could damage, or start a fire, on others property. Never shoot them at people or animals. Please be very careful with your children. Clean up your trash after you discharge fireworks. It is best to water them down before you collect the spent fireworks. (This is how my friend lost part of his hand, picking up someone else’s mess) Please be courteous do not discharge them late into the night.
Be safe, have fun and celebrate this great country’s Independence!

Water is back on!

ATTENTION: City of Garretson Residents and Businesses
A city-wide water main shutdown will be taking place next Monday, 6/30/2025. The shutdown is necessary to replace faulty valves at 3rd Street and Oak drive. The city-wide shutdown will begin at 6AM and last for 4 hours with water being turned on by 10AM for MOST residents and businesses. Additional repairs will be made from 10AM until 5PM. During these repairs, the water will remain shutdown for residents on Oak Drive and Elvira Drive north of Fourth Street as well as individuals east of town along 253rd Street. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during these improvements.

Public works is working on filling the water tower so we may experience less water pressure as it fills. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

Water is back on throughout town! You may notice a slight discoloration at first so please let your water run for a moment. Thank you for your patience!

We are experiencing issues with the water tower and are asking for you to limit your water usage. We will work to keep everyone updated as we work through this issue.

Garretson City Hall will have limited hours next week Tuesday 6-10 through Friday 6-13. The office will be open from 8am until 12pm while employees are gone for training. We will still have some access to phone calls and emails.

Unfortunately, the Garretson Pool will not be opening at this time due to unexpected mechanical issues.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to get everything up and running as soon as possible. Stay tuned for updates—we're eager to welcome everyone back to the water soon!
Thank you for understanding!

Water has been restored in areas around the school. Thank you for your patience!

The city crew will be fixing portions of a water main on Main Ave this evening at 5:30. This will result in a few areas around the school that will have water shut off while the main is repaired. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you live in the area of the school, your water may be shut off for a short time this morning. The city is working hard to fix an issue and get your water restored!

City Wide Clean up is scheduled for May 3rd 2025 with Garbage-N-More from 8am - 4pm. Springdell 4H will be available to pick up items for a donation to the club from 8am-12pm. Pre-registration for pick up is required by calling 605-782-9075.
